project ARC - for Junior High
...the basic values of respect, responsibility, and the valuing of high quality, positive human relationships
are for both parents and schools to inculcate, to teach, and to transmit.
- from The Report of the Nova Scotia Task Force on Bullying and Cyberbullying
An inspiring musical for youth, by youth, project ARC's junior high version continues to educate about human rights and responsibilities with an added focus on issues around substance use, self-respect and respect for boundaries.
project ARC (Action, Responsibility, Choice)
shines a light on human rights
illuminates empathy as a way to rise above insecurity
lights the way to responsible choice
sparks youth to action in their local and global communities
To get the best project ARC experience for your students, we recommend adding a follow-up
Ripple Effect workshop to your day!

Inspired by Nelson Mandela’s
“To be free is not merely to cast off one’s chains,
but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others,”
project ARC uses music, dance and theatrics to educate its audience about the
UN Convention on the Rights of the Child
and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Featuring a multi-talented cast of youth aged 12-18,
project ARC highlights choice, perspective
and purpose as essential tools for creating empathy
and combating the universal challenge of insecurity.

Through project ARC, the following junior high curriculum outcomes are addressed and encouraged:
recognizing the similarities and differences reflected in various personal, cultural, racial, and ethnic perspectives
understanding the interdependence among individuals, societies, and the environment - locally, nationally, and globally
understanding the rights and responsibilities of citizenship (local, national, and global)
identifying factors which can shape a person's world view
assessing the individual qualities and attributes needed to become effective global citizens
exploring an international human rights issue that has local implications
identifying strategies for balancing personal values and needs with the need for peer acceptance
encouraging personal responsibility, volunteer service and a sense of global citizenship
questioning assumptions and imagining, understanding and appreciating realities other than one’s own
exploring how pressures to conform can emerge and affect an individual
valuing the arts as a record of human experience and expression
WE HAVE THE RIGHT TO BE FREE, BUT TO REALLY BE FREE,
WE HAVE TO CHOOSE TO ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY!
WE HAVE TO CHOOSE TO ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY!

project ARC does not accept payment for our show.
Instead, schools donate a minimum of $200 to one or more of our chosen charitable organizations
as a show of support for our message of responsible citizenship.
To date, project ARC has spARCed schools to give over $31 000 in donations to
Doctors Without Borders, First Nations Child and Family Caring Society, Free the Children, Hope for Wildlife, Right To Play,
Ecology Action Centre, Phoenix Youth, Shelter NS, and more.
Please note: project ARC, a presentation by MITE (Meaningful, Intelligent, Theatrical Entertainment),
is not affiliated with any group, religion or organization
"The fact that your group only wants a donation to charity is wonderful and also a good example
and a chance to talk about different charities and what our kids can do."
